10 Hiring Questions to Land On the Right Fit

Since my first hiring experience in 2017, I had many instances of firsthand learning in assessing the fit of potential hires. I feel sharing these can help many others in similar situations. And I’ll do this in a way that it is an advice to my own self so I can always come back and refer to this later. Hopefully it helps you just as it did me.

  1. Why did you leave your last job – or why do you want to leave your current job?
  2. What did you like about your last job?
  3. What do you know about me and my organization?
  4. What skills do you have that make a perfect fit for this role?
  5. Do you have any other skills that were not on the JD that might be useful for me and my organization?
  6. Tell me about yourself. What do you like to do outside of work?
  7. What have you done in last 12 months to improve your skills?
  8. How long would you expect to work for me if you got the job?
  9. If I was to hire you today, what would make you an asset to my company?
  10. What do you expect to get paid for this role?

These 10 questions didn’t fail me to understand the candidates better and increase my odds of landing on the right fit. For quite some time, these points stayed with me and it feels great to share with you. As they say

Most advice people give is almost always a note to their own self.

So with that, back to work. Let’s continue the exploration.
