McRaven shares 10 lessons he learned from Navy SEAL training.
Start your day with an accomplishment.
In everyday life, we need to set rituals to feel in control. Making our bed every morning, as simple as it may seem, can give us the motivation and satisfaction to start off our day.
You can’t do it all on your own.
Don’t forget that your success also depends on others. We all need extra hand sometimes and others kindness to go through complicated lives.
It’s not the size of the person that matters.
It’s the size of the heart that does. Whatever your physical strength and what people may think of you at first glance, you can achieve your goals with a big heart (and motivation!).
To reach your goals, stop complaining and move on.
It’s too easy to put the blame on external forces, on your social environment or think our future depends on our education. Nothing could be further from the truth. Take Nelson Mandela, Stephen Hawking, Malala Yousufzai for example…
Failure makes you stronger.
You won’t be able to avoid shameful moments of failure. We all fail at some point in our lives. Don’t’ be afraid of mistakes as we always learn from them.
Dare to be bold.
If you don’t push yourself, don’t jump head first., don’t take any chances, you’ll never know how far you can go in your life.
Stand up to bullies.
Bullies feed on others fears and weaknesses. They’ll push you around to assess your vulnerability. Courage lies within each and everyone of us. You just need to dig a litter deeper to find it.
Always give the best of you.
Even in worst situations at some point, we’ll all face difficult moments that will make us doubt our future. Dig deep inside of yourself to find the courage to move forward with pride and confidence.
Give hope.
Hope is the most powerful force in universe and sometimes it only takes one person to change it all around. When you find the yourself in a difficult situation, find the strength to remain optimistic and cheer up the rest of the troops to bring hope for a better future.
Never give up.
Life is full of deceptions and tough moments. But there’ll always be people for whom it is even tougher. If you focus only on self-pity, you’ll live a very long and painful life.
On the contrary, if you refuse to give up on your dreams, you’ll live a happy and fulfilling life.
Start each day with a task completed. Find someone to help you get through life. Respect everyone. Know that life is not fair and you’ll fail often, but if you take some risks, step up when the times are toughest, face down the bullies, lift up the downtrodden and never, ever give up… If you do thee things, then the next generation and the generation that follow will live in a world far better than the one we have today. And what started here will indeed have changed the world for the better.
