- The challenge should worth 5 days of sprint members
- Recruit sprint team (team of 7)
- Decider, finance, marketing, sales, tech, logistics, design, facilitator
- If decision maker cannot make it, consider a delegate
- Or ask him to come in at the end of the session
- Block 5 Full Days on the calendar
- Book a room with 2 or more whiteboards
- Stock up sprint supplies (sticky notes, healthy snacks, markers…)
Monday (Background and problem)
- Start at the end
- Ask if the sprint goes perfectly what it will look like after 6 months (perfect future)
- Ask questions that might trip you up (worst scenarios)
- Make a map
- Draw diagram showing how customer moves through your product/service
- Ask the Experts
- Talk to experts (adjust your diagram)
- Take ‘How Might We (HMW)’ notes (frame the problem as question)
- Organize HMWs on the wall
- Sort into different categories
- Pick a target (specific customer, specific spot on the map)
Tuesday (Sketch and solutions)
- 3-minute lightning demos
- Review inspiring/creative solutions from others
- Sketch solutions
- Stack sketches (don’t look at it yet)
Wednesday (Hypothesis and decide)
- Organize sketches on the wall
- Review the sketches in silence and perform dot voting
- Carry out 3-minute speed critique (creator speaks last)
- Decider makes the call (super vote)
- If there’s more than 1 solution, consider building all and give fake names for reach
- Create storyboards for solutions
Thursday (Build and prototype)
- Build realistic prototypes using the right tools (e.g. Keynote, Powerpoint…)
- Assign roles (writer, asset collector, stitcher)
- Trial run
Friday (Test and feedback)
- Interview the matched customer profiles (5 is the magic number)
- 5-act interview (welcome, context questions, introduce prototype, detailed tasks, quick debrief)
- Watch together, note together, look for patterns
- Plan the next move
- Consider a follow-up sprint (may not be full 5-day)
