Summary: The Four Agreements by Miguel Ruiz

Our biggest fear is not dying, it’s being ourselves. As we grow up with both rewards and punishment, we learned to wear a mask to please others.

Agreement 1 – Be Impeccable with your word

Impeccable means ‘without sin’. Don’t use your words to speak against yourself or others.

Agreement 2 – Do not take anything personally

We learned to take everything personally during our domestication. We must learn to become less reactive and more detached.

What others say is not your reality. It’s a projection of who they are.

If it hurts you, it’s not them who hurt you, it’s you who has a wound.

Agreement 3 – Do not make assumptions

We assume when we do not have the courage or discipline to ask. Often our assumptions tend to lean towards negativity.

Agreement 4 – Always do your best

Your ‘best’ is relative. The best you give in your mornings may far outweigh the best you give in your evenings. Your personal improvement and transformation comes after giving your best. Enjoy the path. The destination will take care of itself.

A victim represses his emotions, while a warrior reframes.

Instead of hiding your emotions, do accept the emotion and express it in the right moment.

Imagine you have only 1 week to live. Would you live your life the way others want it?

Everything you have is not really yours. You can use it for now but they can be taken away anytime. So enjoy it without getting attached.
